Assistant Professor-Psychology at Flame University
I have recently completed my PhD (Social Psychology) titled “Understanding the Construction and Negotiation of Tibetan Refugee Identities in India” from the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, India under the supervision of Prof. Purnima Singh.
My research primarily focuses on social identity and the context. I consider factors such as the social, historical, and political context to be of critical importance when exploring identities of any kind, and this is the premise of most of my work. I am interested in the construction, negotiation, and contestation of identity (ies) at a group level, looking to understand the cross-section of identity and culture. Discourses in and around identity are fascinating for me. Refugee groups are of particular interest to me and my work has primarily focussed on Tibetan refugees thus far. Moving forward, I intend to expand my understanding of identity processes in other refugee groups and groups located at the margins of society. I believe that developing this understanding can lead to more inclusive and sensitive communities.
I am also currently the Editorial Assistant for Psychological Studies, the official journal for the National Academy of Psychology (NAOP) India (March 2022-Present).
